Cha is Senior Advisor to the Board of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd (HKEX), where she served as Chairman from April 2018 to April 2024. She is also Chairman of HKEX’s International Advisory Council and Mainland China Advisory Group. <br /><br />Mrs Cha currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Ant Group Co. Ltd. and is a member of the Hong Kong-United States Business Council. She is a director of the board of the Bretton Woods Committee, a trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation, and a member of Sotheby’s International Advisory Board. In addition, she is Vice Chairman of the International Advisory Council of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, a member of the Global Leadership Council of Oxford University's Said Business School, a director of the Yale Asia Development Council, and an advisory council member of the Yale Beijing Centre. <br /><br />Mrs Cha became the first, and to-date, the only person outside Mainland China to join the Central Government of the People’s Republic of China at the vice-ministerial rank when she was appointed as Vice Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission in January 2001. She served in that position until 2004. Prior to that, Mrs Cha practiced law in the US and in Hong Kong and worked at the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong from 1991 to 2000, becoming its Deputy Chairman in 1998. <br /><br />Mrs Cha has been active in public service in Hong Kong over the last 30 years, having been a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government from 2004 to 2022, Chairman of the Financial Services Development Council from 2013 to 2018, and Chairman of the University Grants Committee from 2007 to 2012. <br /><br />Mrs Cha has also served as director on the boards of HSBC Holdings plc, Unilever plc, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, Johnson Electrics Ltd., and China Telecom Ltd. <br /><br />Mrs. Cha received her BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her JD from Santa Clara University, in the US. She was awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star in 2001, a Gold Bauhinia Star in 2009 and a Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2017 by the HKSAR Government in recognition of her public service.</div></div>

  <div class="speaker-details">Mr. Ronnie C. Chan is the Honorary Chair of Hang Lung Group Limited and its subsidiary Hang Lung Properties Limited, both publicly listed in Hong Kong. Founded in Hong Kong in 1960, Hang Lung expanded into mainland China in 1992, developing, owning and managing world-class commercial complexes in key tier one and tier two cities.<br />
    <br />
    Mr. Chan is active in many non-profit and educational organizations. He is Chairman of the Executive Committee of The Better Hong Kong Foundation. He founded and chairs the China Heritage Fund, which preserves and conserves heritage architecture of historical significance in China, and is a co-founding Director of The Forbidden City Cultural Heritage Conservation Foundation in Beijing. He is Co-Founder and Chairman of the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society, and Founding Chairman Emeritus of the Asia Business Council. Mr. Chan had previously served as Chairman of the Hong Kong-United States Business Council, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the One Country Two Systems Research Institute and Vice President and Advisor of the China Development Research Foundation in Beijing. Mr. Chan is Chair Emeritus of the Asia Society and Chairman of its Hong Kong Center, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Committee on United States-China Relations, and the Committee of 100.<br />
    <br />
    Mr. Chan serves or has served on the governing or advisory bodies of several think tanks and universities, which include: Peterson Institute for International Economics, World Economic Forum, East-West Center, Pacific Council on International Policy, Eisenhower Fellowships, The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation, University of Southern California, Indian School of Business, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Yale University, Tsinghua University, and Fudan University.<br />
    <br />
    In 1986, Mr. Chan co-founded Morningside, a diversified investment group engaged in private equity and venture capital investments in North America, Asia, and Europe. It was among the earliest private equity investors in Hong Kong and mainland China. Morningside is committed to philanthropy and preservation. Through the Morningside Foundation, it has made major gifts, including the establishment of the Morningside College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, endowments to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, named after Mr. Chan’s late father, and the UMass Chan Medical School, and the creation of the MIT Morningside Academy for Design. Mr. Chan and his wife made the first named gift in the field of occupational science and endowed the Mrs. T.H. Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California, named in honor of Mr. Chan’s mother.<br />

    Mr. Chan is a frequent speaker at international conferences and has published numerous articles in Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, Newsweek, Fortune, Asian Wall Street Journal, Far Eastern Economic Review, and Japan Times.<br />

Mr Ronnie C. Chan, GBM

He received his early education in Hong Kong and England, and took his law degree at University College London (UCL) where he is now Chairman of the University’s governing council. 
<br><br>
Mr Chu is Chairman and CEO of First Eastern Investment Group, a leading Hong Kong-based international investment firm and a pioneer of private equity investments in China. He is a Co-Founder and Director of Peach Aviation in Japan, as well as a Board Member of Airbus SE and Nomura Holdings. 
<br><br>
Over the last 30+ years, Victor Chu has at various times served as Director and Council Member of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Member of the Hong Kong Takeovers and Mergers Panel, Advisory Committee Member of the Securities and Futures Commission, and part-time member of Hong Kong Government’s Central Policy Unit. Mr Chu has also served as a Foundation Board Member (Trustee) of the World Economic Forum from 2003 to 2015 and currently co-chairs the Forum’s International Business Council. He is Chairman of the Hong Kong-United States Business Council and Chairman Emeritus of the Hong Kong-Europe Business Council.

Mr Chu is admitted to practise law in England and Hong Kong. Since 1982 he has practised in the field of corporate, commercial and securities laws, with special emphasis on regional investment transactions. He served as Deputy Secretary-General of the International Bar Association (IBA) from 1995 to 2000. 
<br><br>
Victor Chu is a Trustee of Asia House in Hong Kong, as well as a member of the advisory boards of Chatham House, the Oxford Martin School and the Atlantic Council of the USA.

Mr Chu was awarded the 2011 Global Economy Prize by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

In January that year he took up his first position in Dubai, remaining in the Middle East and undertaking a variety of roles in different countries including Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain, until 1979, when he was transferred to the Group’s operations in Hong Kong.<br /><br />Subsequent roles took him back to Saudi Arabia, to Hong Kong and then Malaysia. In 1990 he was appointed a General Manager of the Group. <br /><br />He returned to Hong Kong in April 1992 where, after a temporary assignment as General Manager Hong Kong and China, he took up the position of General Manager in The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation's International department. Mr. Eldon was made an Executive Director of the Bank in January 1994, Chief Executive Officer in January 1996 and Chairman in January 1999. In June 1996 Mr. Eldon became Chairman of Hang Seng Bank Ltd., a member of the HSBC Group, and was appointed a director of HSBC Holdings plc on 1 January 1999. He retired from the Group in May 2005.<br /><br />In 2005 he became Chairman of the Dubai International Financial Centre Authority until June 2011, and from then was a Member of the DIFC Higher Board until December 2020. He was Senior Adviser, PricewaterhouseCoopers from 2005 until June 2014. <br /><br />He returned to banking in 2011 to become non-executive Chairman of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, and between 2013-2017 was Chairman of HSBC Bank Oman, a 51% owned subsidiary of HSBC Bank Middle East. In 2017 he added the roles of non-executive Chairman for HSBC Group subsidiaries HSBC Bank Egypt, HSBC Bank Turkey, and HSBC Middle East Holdings. He stepped down from all those roles during 2021.<br /><br />In 2021 he was appointed to the role of Deputy Chairman of HSBC Asia Pacific, and sits on several Board Committees. He is Advisor to the CEO of HSBC’s Global Commercial Bank. He is an Adviser to Singapore-based Southern Capital Group a private equity firm, and to Hong Kong-based but international property group RIBCA Holdings. He holds community and charitable appointments in Hong Kong.<br /><br />He was a Past Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and was between 2005-2012 Adviser to the Office of the President, South Korea. He is a Founding Member and past Chairman of the Seoul International Business Advisory Council. Between 2016 and 2019 he was an Adviser to Thailand’s CP Group on their Corporate Governance Committee.<br /><br />Mr. Eldon is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB). He was conferred Honorary Doctor of Business Administration by the City University of Hong Kong in November 2003. He was named the DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Businessperson of the Year for 2003 and in 2004 was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) by the Government of the Hong Kong SAR. In 2005 he was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his contribution to banking and awarded Honorary Citizenship of Seoul in recognition of his work for the city. He was awarded the Asian Banker Lifetime Achievement Award for 2005. In 2011 Mr. Eldon was conferred Honorary Doctor of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Mr. Eldon is a Justice of the Peace (JP).</div></div>

Fung is Chairman of Fung Investments, the Fung Family’s private investment arm which invests strategically in companies poised to transform retail, supply chain, and logistics, and forms influential partnerships across these sectors. Previously, Dr. Fung played a pivotal role in driving the evolution of the supply chain ecosystem within the Family’s flagship company Li &amp; Fung, enabling it to become the leading consumer goods design, development, sourcing, and logistics company for major retailers and brands around the world.<br /><br />Dr. Fung is Chairman of the Asia Global Institute at the University of Hong Kong, a multi-disciplinary think-tank contributing to international discourse on global issues from Asian perspectives. He is also Chairman of the 2022 Foundation, a non-profit entity focused on research into Hong Kong’s long-term competitiveness and Chairman of the Victor and William Fung Foundation, whose focus is the nurturing of human capital and supporting educational programmes.<br /><br />In Hong Kong, Dr. Fung is Chairman of the Civil Service Training Advisory Board and the Global STEM Professorship Scheme Assessment Panel, and a member of the Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers. He is a director of the Hong Kong Investment Corporation as well as a member of Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Exchange Fund Advisory Committee. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance.<br /><br />Dr. Fung is a former Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (1991-2000), a Hong Kong representative on the APEC Business Advisory Council (1996-2003), Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (1999-2008), Chairman of the Council of The University of Hong Kong (2001-2009), Chairman of the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council (2004-2013) and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (2014-2018).<br /><br />In the Chinese Mainland, he is a member of the International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Beijing, a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, an Honorary Trustee of Peking University and an Honorary Professor of Renmin University. He is a former member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (2003-2018), and Vice-Chairman of the China Centre for International Economic Exchanges (2009-2014).<br /><br />Dr. Fung played a leadership role from 2007 in the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), of which he was the first Chairman from Asia (2008-2010). He co-Chaired the ICC’s Advisory Group on Trade Finance (2020-2021). From 2012 to 2013, he was a member of the World Trade Organisation’s panel on Defining the Future of Trade. He was also a member of APEC’s vision-setting Eminent Persons Group (1993-1995).<br /><br />Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr. Fung holds Bachelor and Master degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After gaining his Doctorate in Business Economics from Harvard University, he taught as a professor at Harvard Business School before returning to the family business in Hong Kong in 1976.<br /><br />Dr. Fung is married with three adult children.</div></div>

He later developed his career in Europe and New York, where he held a variety of positions within corporate banking and global strategy planning.<br /><br />Following his return to Japan, he held a number of high-ranking positions in MUFG Bank’s corporate banking and corporate planning divisions. In January 2006, Mr. Hirano was appointed as a Managing Director responsible for corporate function at the Bank.<br /><br />In March 2009, he became a Director at Morgan Stanley, a firm with which MUFG had formed a strategic capital alliance. In June 2009, Mr. Hirano was promoted to Deputy President of MUFG Bank and also assumed an additional role as a Managing Officer of MUFG in charge of facilitating the strategic alliance with Morgan Stanley.<br /><br />Mr. Hirano was appointed President of MUFG Bank in April 2012, and President &amp; Group CEO of MUFG in April 2013. He became Chairman of the Bank in April 2016 and Chairman of MUFG in April 2019, before becoming a Senior Advisor at the Bank in April 2021.<br /><br />Mr. Hirano has served as a Vice Chair of Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) and a Director, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries since 2019. He also served as Chairman of the Japan-U.S. Business Council from 2017 to 2021 and an Audit and Supervisory Board member of Toyota Motor Corporation for four years from 2018 to June 2022.<br /><br />Mr. Hirano graduated in 1974 from Kyoto University, where he studied law.</div></div>

In a career spanning 35 years, she has been a key driver of the company's transformation to what is now one of the largest global investment managers with over US$1.6 trillion in assets under management.<br />
    <br />
    Ms. Johnson held leadership roles in all major divisions of the business-including investment management, distribution, technology, operations and wealth management-before becoming CEO in February 2020. She has led the evolution of the business in recent years, further diversifying the company's investment capabilities and solutions for clients through key strategic acquisitions and investments.<br />
    <br />
    Ms. Johnson has received many recognitions, including being named to Forbes' “World's 100 Most Powerful Women” and “50 Over 50” lists in 2022. She has been named to Barron's list of the “100 Most Influential Women in US Finance” for four consecutive years, most recently in 2023.<br />
    <br />
    Ms. Johnson serves on a variety of boards, including the International Advisory Panel of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the NYSE Board Advisory Council and, in 2023, was appointed to the US-Brazil CEO Forum. Additionally, Ms. Johnson is a board member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Foundation, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Catalyst. Previously, she has served on several other boards, including Stanford's Lucille Packard Children's Hospital and the San Francisco Giants.<br />

Lau received his B.S. degree (with Great Distinction) in Physics from Stanford University in 1964 and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1966 and 1969 respectively. He joined the faculty of the Department of Economics at Stanford University in 1966, becoming Professor of Economics in 1976 and the first Kwoh-Ting Li Professor in Economic Development at Stanford University in 1992. He became Kwoh-Ting Li Professor in Economic Development, Emeritus, at Stanford University upon his retirement from Stanford University in 2006. From 2004 to 2010, Professor Lau served as Vice-Chancellor (President) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Since 2007, Professor Lau has been serving as Ralph and Claire Landau Professor of Economics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. From September 2010 to September 2014, he served as Chairman of CIC International (Hong Kong) Co., Limited.<br /><br />Professor Lau specialises in economic development, economic growth, and the economies of East Asia, including that of China. In 1966, he developed the first econometric model of China. He has authored, co-authored, or edited seventeen books, including The China-U.S. Trade War and Future Economic Relations, and published more than 210 articles and notes in international professional journals.<br /><br />He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, an Academician of Academia Sinica, Taipei, an Overseas Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge, and an Honorary Member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.<br /><br />Professor Lau currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) Finance Institute. In addition, he also serves as a member of the Currency Board Sub-committee of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong SAR, a Non-official Member of the Candidate Eligibility Review Committee of the Hong Kong SAR, a Non-official Member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Investment Corporation of the Hong Kong SAR, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange, Taipei. He also holds a degree in Law.<br /><br /> CAREER<br /> Jean Lemierre has a long and recognised career in international finance. In the 1980s he held various posts within the French Tax Administration, including Head of Tax Legislation and Director General of Taxes. In May 1995, he was appointed Chief of Cabinet of the French Ministry of Economy and Finances and become Head of Treasury in October later that year. Before being appointed at the helm of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 2000, he was a member of the European Monetary Committee (1995-1998), President of the European Economic and Financial Committee (1999-2000) and Chairman of the Paris Club (1999-2000). He served as President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development until 2008. En 2009, Jean Lemierre became a member of the International Advisory Council of the China Investment Corporation (CIC) and the International Advisory Council of the China Development Bank (CDB). He is member of the International Advisory Panel (IAP) for the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). He was Senior Advisor to the Chairman of BNP Paribas between 1 September 2008 and 30 November 2014.<br /><br /> TODAY<br /> On 1 December 2014, Jean Lemierre became Chairman of BNP Paribas. He is also Chairman of the main French institute for research into international economics (CEPII), a member of the Institute of International Finance (IIF) and in May 2016, he was elected Member of the Board of Directors of TOTAL Energies.</div></div>

He was a Member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong representing the Finance Constituency from 1985 to 2012, and was a Member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong from 2005 to 2008. He has held numerous appointments to Government advisory boards in the financial services sector. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance.
    
    <br /><br />In addition to his commitment to the industry, Sir David is active in public service. He is Chairman of the Advisory Board of The Salvation Army, Hong Kong and Macau Territory; Chairman of the Executive Committee of St. James' Settlement; and Founding Chairman of The Friends of Cambridge University in Hong Kong Limited, which runs the Prince Philip Scholarship Scheme. Sir David is Pro-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong.
    
    <br /><br />Sir David is also a Director of several prominent local listed companies, including The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited; The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Limited; San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong Limited and Vitasoy International Holdings Limited. He previously served on the Boards of several leading public companies in the United States, United Kingdom and Europe.
    
    <br /><br />Sir David holds a Master’s degree in Economics and Law from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Liès has 40 years’ experience in global insurance and reinsurance, life insurance, and property and casualty insurance. He has held a number of positions in the industry, including Group CEO of Swiss Re. He began his career at the reinsurer in 1978, working first in the life market in Latin America before moving to Europe in 1983, where he held a number of senior positions within Swiss Re’s life businesses. In 1994, he moved into Swiss Re’s non-life sector, with responsibility for southern Europe and Latin America. From 1998 he served as Swiss Re’s head of Latin America division until 2000, when he was appointed head of the Europe division of its Property &amp; Casualty business group. In 2005, he became Swiss Re’s head Client Markets with responsibility for client relationships worldwide, and was appointed a member of the reinsurer’s group executive committee. From 2011 to 2012, Mr. Liès served as Swiss Re’s chairman of Global Partnerships, which works with governments, international development bodies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to mitigate and address global risks and increase resilience. He was appointed Swiss Re’s Group CEO in February 2012 and served in that role until his retirement from Swiss Re in 2016. In 1991, he completed the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University in the U.S. He completed the Senior Executive Program at Harvard University in 1996.</div></div>

After joining the Group in 1969, he held a number of senior positions until his retirement from executive office in March 2012. Today he is a non-executive director of Jardine Matheson Holdings and of other Jardine Matheson group companies, Dairy Farm, and Hongkong Land and a commissioner of Astra International.<br /><br />He is also a non-executive director of Vitasoy International Holdings Limited and Shui On Land Limited.<br /><br />Mr Nightingale is the chairperson of The Sailors Home and Missions to Seafarers in Hong Kong and the Patron of the Hong Kong Tennis Foundation. He is a past chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and was appointed as an ABAC Representative of Hong Kong, China from 2005 to 2017, the Hong Kong representative to the APEC Vision Group from 2018 to 2019 and a member of the HKSAR Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers on Innovation and Strategic Development from 2017 to 2022.<br /><br />Mr Nightingale was born in Yorkshire, United Kingdom in November 1947. He was educated at Uppingham School and graduated from Cambridge, with a Degree in Classics.</div></div>

He is Pro-Chancellor of Bristol University and Distinguished Fellow, Asia Global Institute, University of Hong Kong, as well as Chairman, George Town Institute of Open and Advanced Studies, Wawasan Open University, Malaysia.<br /><br />Mr. Sheng is a member of International Advisory Council, National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA), China and he is one of the Chief Executive's Council of Advisers, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.<br /><br />Mr. Sheng sits in the Advisory Board of Bank Indonesia Institute. He is a member to Commission on Global Economic Transformation, chaired by Nobel Laureates Stiglitz and Spence. He is an International Advisory Board Member of Thailand Development Research Institute. He sits in the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) Leadership Council and as a Distinguished Fellow, Institute for Capital Market Research, Malaysia.<br /><br />He served as Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong from 1998 to 2005, having previously been a central banker with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Bank Negara Malaysia. He also worked with the World Bank from 1989 to 1993. From 2003 to 2005, he chaired the Technical Committee of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). He was a Board Member of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the sovereign wealth fund of Malaysia.<br /><br />He has a First Class Honours in Economics from Bristol University, and Honorary Doctorates from University of Bristol and University of Malaya. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, Beijing and Faculty of Economics, University of Malaya. He is a Professor by Practice at School of Business and Administration, Wawasan Open University, Malaysia.<br /><br />Mr. Sheng is author of “From Asian to Global Financial Crisis: An Asian Regulator’s View of Unfettered Finance in the 1990s and 2000s” (2009), and co-editor (with Ng Chow Soon) of the book,“Bringing Shadow Banking into the Light: Opportunity for Financial Reform in China” (2015). He writes regularly on international finance and monetary economics, financial regulation and global governance for Project Syndicate, AsiaNewsNet and leading economic magazines and newspapers in China and Asia. In April 2013, Andrew was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He also appeared in the Oscar-winning film “Inside Job” in 2011.</div></div>

She undertook a wide range of assignments between 2009 and 2014, such as advising the South Korean Presidency of the G20 in 2010; two European countries on the Eurozone and banking crisis; the African Development Bank on infrastructure financing and a number of sovereign wealth funds and global investors on strategy.<br /><br />She was a Minister in the UK government from 2007 to 2009 in the Prime Minister&rsquo;s Office, Business Department and International Development Department. She led the UK government&rsquo;s response to the financial crisis and was a key architect of its pioneering bank recapitalisation and funding plan and helped design and negotiate the outcomes of the pivotal G20 London Summit in 2009. <br /><br />She was on the Council of Economic Advisers at the UK Treasury from 1999 to 2007, where she led on policy for business, productivity, international finance and development issues and the management of the Government&rsquo;s shareholdings and public private partnerships. Prior to that she was an investment banker for 15 years with SG Warburg / UBS focussing on emerging markets. <br /><br />She has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.</div></div>
